How to Import Your Optimized Route into a Garmin GPS

TrackRoad can export your optimized route as a GPX file so you can import it into Garmin Nuvi and many other GPS devices — no extra software needed.

Note: Some older Garmin models may not support GPX import. Check the device manual before purchasing.

Overview🔗

TrackRoad can export routes directly into Garmin devices that support GPX. This guide uses a Garmin Nuvi 760 as an example, but the process is similar for most GPS devices that accept GPX routes.

Connect Garmin device via USB cable

Step 1: Connect the USB cable🔗

Connect the mini-USB connector to the Garmin. Connect the other end to your computer. Your Garmin (and SD card, if installed) will appear as a removable drive in Windows or a mounted volume on Mac.

Step 2: Build your route in TrackRoad🔗

In TrackRoad, build and optimize your route. For faster export, uncheck:

  • Include Maps
  • Include Directions
Tip: Garmin will generate turn-by-turn directions. Exporting without directions is faster.

Step 3: Export as GPX from TrackRoad🔗

Go to the Get Directions tab and click the Garmin button. When the file dialog opens, choose Save.

Browse to your Garmin device drive (or SD card). Open:

  • GarminGPX

Save the file as WayPoints.gpx. Then safely unplug the Garmin device.

Step 4: Import the route on your Garmin🔗

On your Garmin device go to:

  • ToolsMy DataImport Route from File

Select the route and complete the import.

Go to Where To and select the route you just imported.
