How to Import Your Optimized Route into a Garmin GPS
TrackRoad can export your optimized route as a GPX file so you can import it into
Garmin Nuvi and many other GPS devices — no extra software needed.
Note: Some older Garmin models may not support GPX import. Check the device manual before purchasing.
Overview🔗
TrackRoad can export routes directly into Garmin devices that support GPX.
This guide uses a Garmin Nuvi 760 as an example, but the process is similar for most GPS devices that accept GPX routes.
Step 1: Connect the USB cable🔗
Connect the mini-USB connector to the Garmin. Connect the other end to your computer.
Your Garmin (and SD card, if installed) will appear as a removable drive in Windows or a mounted volume on Mac.
Step 2: Build your route in TrackRoad🔗
In TrackRoad, build and optimize your route. For faster export, uncheck:
- Include Maps
- Include Directions
Tip: Garmin will generate turn-by-turn directions. Exporting without directions is faster.
Step 3: Export as GPX from TrackRoad🔗
Go to the Get Directions tab and click the Garmin button.
When the file dialog opens, choose Save.
Step 3 (continued): Save into the Garmin/GPX folder🔗
Browse to your Garmin device drive (or SD card). Open:
Save the file as WayPoints.gpx. Then safely unplug the Garmin device.
Step 4: Import the route on your Garmin🔗
On your Garmin device go to:
- Tools → My Data → Import Route from File
Select the route and complete the import.
Step 5: Start navigating🔗
Go to Where To and select the route you just imported.
Enjoy your trip!
